At 11:00 a.m., the centre of Tropical Storm Danny was located near latitude 11.1 degrees North, longitude 41.1 degrees West. Danny is moving toward the west near 12 miles per hour (mph) and a track to west to the west-northwest at a slightly slower speed is expected during the next 48 hours.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is predicted during the next 48 hours.
Forecasters predict Danny will become a hurricane by Friday.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the centre.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb.
Although there is some uncertainty with regard to the intensity of Tropical Storm Danny, forecasters expect the system to strengthen to a hurricane with a peak of 90 mph in about three to four days. Thereafter, some gradual weakening is forecast.
Danny is forecast to reach the Leeward Islands on Monday as a Category 1 hurricane. It should pass near Puerto Rico on Tuesday and near Hispaniola on Wednesday.
